Day of the Dead
Each year in October, Joan's home town has a Day of the Dead celebration which includes locals setting up altars in the front windows of participating businesses. These altars are on display for one whole month before the official Day of the Dead celebration, which begins with a parade past all participating stores and ends with music, dancing, and good food at a local church. Joan has been participating since 2007, and each year tries to come up with a display that is both creative and true to the essence of the holiday... showing respectful and joyful memory to loved ones who have passed away.
